Requirements to apply for your stay for studies in Spain
These are some of the most important requirements you'll usually need to prove to apply for your student visa or stay for studies in Spain.
Academic admission or enrollment
You must prove your admission to an authorized educational institution in Spain with an acceptance letter, proof of enrollment or an equivalent document, depending on the academic program.
Financial means (IPREM)
You need to show enough funds to cover your stay in Spain. The amount required is usually calculated based on the current IPREM (Spain's public income index) and may vary depending on the length of the program and whether you're traveling with family members.
Valid health insurance
You must have private health insurance from a provider authorized to operate in Spain, with no co-payments and coverage equivalent to the public health system for your entire stay.
Accommodation in Spain
You can prove accommodation with: a rental agreement, a student residence, a hotel booking, or a letter of accommodation from a family member* (with proof of address and ID).
Submitting the application
You can apply from your home country through the consulate, or from within Spain if your situation allows it and you meet the applicable requirements.
* If you'll be staying with a family member, proof of address and the family member's ID will be required.
Deadlines
The application deadlines are as follows:
a) The application must be submitted at least 2 months before your current legal status expires, that is, during the first month of a short-term stay. Filing the application extends your previous residence or stay status until a decision is made.
b) The application must be submitted at least 2 months before the start date of the activity or studies (as a general rule).
